Bert Frederick Mezenen
November 17, 1932 - April 19, 2023
Morgan; On Wednesday, April 19th, 2023, Bert F. Mezenen, passed away peacefully in the arms of his loving family.
Dad was born in Spanish Fork, Utah to John Albert and Annie Coumber Thompson Mezenen. He grew up and lived with his parents on their ranch along the Strawberry River, just outside of Duchesne Utah.
Dad graduated in 1950 and then headed back to Spanish Fork, where he lived with an aunt and uncle while attending Brigham Young University. While attending BYU, dad heard a radio announcement advertising job openings at Hill AFB.
Dad began working at Hill in 51, only to be drafted into the Army in 53. He served abroad for just under two years, traveling through Europe, before returning to the states and finishing an eight-year stint with the reserves and returning to Hill for a wonderful 38-year career. Dad retired in 88.
Dad married his eternal partner Marlene Mae Sorensen, on April 20, 1957. Their marriage was later solemnized in the Salt Lake LDS Temple on January 25, 1980.
Dad was a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and took pride in serving others.
Dad enjoyed many things, from making old 8mm movies as a young man, obtaining his pilot’s license, to traveling the world over. After retirement, Mom and Dad traveled from Alaska to Florida, spending their winter months in Indio, California. He enjoyed meeting new friends and had the knack of turning strangers into lifelong friends.
Dad was an avid volunteer, providing hours of devotion to those in need, such as Meals on Wheels, John F. Kennedy Hospital where he worked in pharmaceuticals, RCB Shuffle Board Chairperson, and last but not least, the Indio CHIP''s (Citizens Helping Indio Police) program where he was just shy of reaching 20 years of service.
Dad was preceded in death by both parents, two siblings and his loving wife and one daughter.
Surviving are his children, Julie and Roland Haslam, Morgan, UT; Roger and Shelly Mezenen, Morgan, UT; eight grandchildren and three step grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; and nine step great grandchildren.
Friends may visit family Tuesday, April 25th from 6 to 8 p.m. at Walker’s Mortuary, 45 W. 200 N. Morgan, Ut.
Graveside services will be held at Lindquist’s Memorial Gardens of the Wasatch Cemetery, 1718 Combe Rd., So. Ogden, Utah at 11am Wednesday April 26th.
